The first thing that catches your eye as you walk in the door is the T-shirts hanging on the wall.
For a few dollars, you can own a black one with “Heretic” emblazoned in white on the front, or a white one sporting the word Darwin etched in black inside a fish-like container.
Reason, science and freedom of inquiry obviously are top dog at the Centre for Inquiry Ontario.
Not far from the T-shirts is the reception desk with a donation box. Visitors are urged to donate $5 to the evening’s affair, an …

Chilling Soviet plans to launch massive nuclear strikes in Europe followed by a ground offensive in Germany and southern France have been unearthed by a Nato historian.
According to scenarios drafted in 1964, Warsaw Pact forces planned to use 131 tactical nuclear missiles and bombs to sideline NATO armaments and destroy Western Europe’s political and communications centres, in the event of an “imperialist” strike.
In an alarming insight into the “Doctor Strangelove” mindset of Soviet strategists, the Czechoslovak People’s Army, CSLA, was then expected to immediately march over deadly radioactive landscape and …

Two far-reaching Russian Tupolev 95 bombers entered the Icelandic air observation zone north of the country yesterday morning. British military jets flew towards the bombers and followed them to the northern limits of the observation zone.
The Russian aircrafts circled Iceland and flew as close as 43 nautical miles offshore, but without entering Icelandic airspace, ruv.is reports.

The US dollar hit a new record low against the euro as investors sold the currency after the Federal Reserve’s hefty interest rate cut.
The greenback dropped below the psychologically-key $1.40 level against the euro, deepening recent losses.
Meanwhile, the Canadian dollar reached one-to-one parity with the US currency for the first time in 31 years.
A strong domestic economy and concerns about a US economic slowdown have led to the rally on Canada’s Loonie.

Two officials at leading Communist Party bodies have given interviews in recent days warning - for the first time - that Beijing may use its $1.33 trillion (£658bn) of foreign reserves as a political weapon to counter pressure from the US Congress.
Shifts in Chinese policy are often announced through key think tanks and academies.
Described as China’s “nuclear option” in the state media, such action could trigger a dollar crash at a time when the US currency is already breaking down through historic support levels.
