Rick Larson said he used scriptures, science and history to try to find out the truth about one of the most celebrated natural phenomena in the Christian history.

A massive magnitude 7.8 earthquake rocked the South Pacific island nation of Tonga on Thursday, triggering international warnings of a potentially lethal tsunami — but those messages failed to reach the tiny nation.
The warning raised jitters from Hawaii to New Zealand, until authorities called it off two hours later because the quake never generated any massive waves. The 4:26 a.m. earthquake, about 150 kilometers (95 miles) south of the Tongan island of Neiafu, did little damage to South Pacific countries beyond breaking windows.

A Christian biologist is suing the prestigious Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts, claiming he was fired for refusing to accept evolution, lawyers involved in the case said on Friday.
Nathaniel Abraham, an Indian national who describes himself as a “Bible-believing Christian,” said in the suit filed on Monday in U.S. District Court in Boston that he was fired in 2004 because he would not accept evolution as scientific fact.

An outbreak of a mystery strain of encephalitis has killed nearly 500 children in northern India this year and seems to be getting worse, doctors said Thursday.
Doctors in Uttar Pradesh state, the center of the outbreak, have been unable to identify the strain of the disease, which has affected only children, killing 484 of them since the beginning of the year, said state Health Minister Anant Kumar Mishra.
And the outbreak is spreading quickly, doctors said.
