John Hagee Apologizes For Referring to Catholic Church as ‘Great Whore’

John Hagee, a popular US televangelist who backs Republican presidential candidate John McCain has apologised for calling the Catholic church “a great whore”.
“I want to express my deep regret for any comments that Catholics have found hurtful,” Texas-based preacher John Hagee wrote to Catholic League for Civil and Religious Rights president William Donahue, who made the letter public.
Mr Hagee, 68, said that after speaking with Catholic friends and officials, “I now have an improved understanding of the Catholic Church, its relation to the Jewish faith, and the history of anti-Catholicism.”
A staunch supporter of Israel, Mr Hagee, leader of John Hagee Ministries, has in the past accused the Catholic Church of being anti-Semitic, in addition to branding it “the great whore”.
“In my zeal to oppose anti-Semitism and bigotry in all its ugly forms, I have often emphasised the darkest chapters in the history of Catholics and Protestant relations with the Jews,” he wrote.
“In the process, I may have contributed to the mistaken impression that the anti-Jewish violence of the Crusades and the Inquisition defines the Catholic church. It most certainly does not.”
Mr Donahue’s response was positive. “The tone of Hagee’s letter is sincere,” he said.
Mr Hagee is known for controversial statements. In 2006 he said Hurricane Katrina, that killed some 1,500 people the year before in Louisiana, was God’s way of punishing New Orleans for scheduling a gay parade the day the storm struck, August 29.
Senator McCain has publicly condemned Mr Hagee’s comments, but has not refused his endorsement, made on February 27.

I love my Jewish brothers and can’t wait until God unites us in Glory. Mr. Hagee was right on the money in relation to the Catholic church. They r the anti-christ. However, Bro. Branham never said to hate Catholics or anyone for that matter. He spoke out against the systems and organisations. Of how the Devil has infiltrated the church and the whole world. Look at all the distractions we have to take us away from meditating on the word. The internet, television, music, bestselling novels, fashion etc. etc. Be aware my brothers and sisters…don’t give satan the victory that belongs to Jesus Christ. God bless.
I think the Catholic church is wrong in all the things that they do. We don’t have to go to a man to repent only to the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe their systems and organisations is wrong to. We are no where to bow down to a man like they worship the pope. The word of God says we have one father and not to call any man father but our father in heaven. I just do not believe in their ways. I believe in the true word of god and that salvation is in Jesus Christ.
Mr Hagee said what the bible says in REVELATIONS, now these evenglas are so tied up with politicts they can’t even say what the word says anymore, when they do they get attact and they start apologgizing for what the word of GOD says. It just shows where these men stand its not on the WORD OF GOD i know that. She is exactly what she said she was. She is the first church to ever be organized. When GOD ever organized religion, it was the Catholic church. The first organization was ever organized in the world, of Christian religion, the Catholic church. Now… And then, finaly, she was ” THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS,” She gave birth unto churches, after her, ’cause they couldn’t have been boys; they had to be girls. And we find out that the Protestant church is a product of the Catholic church, by searching the Scriptures and looking at your history book. We see that the Protestant church is the product. And the protestant can’t holler at the Catholic, because the both, says they are “harlots” and “whores” That’s flats, but thats THUS SAITH THE LORD. That’s right.
i agree that the catholic church is the great in revelation and there is no denying it! i have read hagee’s books where he said Jesus did NOT COME AS THE MESSIAH! i wonder if he will apologize 4 that too! he obviously was not speaking under inspiration when he said these things. thank God for the true revealed word!
Mr Hagee knows very well that the Catholic church is the great whore that is refered to in Revelations, its the works of the Devil that has swayed him to change his mind due to the machinations of the devil in the name of the politics.
He knows very well that therev is a good number of Catholics in the US and to say anything against them would mean disaster for Mr McCain but the word of God still stands and as the prophet said these preachers shall be judged for what they have preached and Mr Hagge will definately be judged for this reversal his statement.
