Christopher Laurie, the 33-year-old son of Harvest Crusade evangelist Greg Laurie, and his wife, Cathe, died this morning in a car crash in Riverside County in Southern California, ministry publicist Laura Swickard McGowan, said. Details of the crash were not immediately available.

The senior Laurie is the founder of the Harvest Crusade, which is scheduled for Aug. 16 and 17 in Anaheim, Calif. Laurie’s church, Harvest Christian Fellowship, and the crusade headquarters are both based in Riverside. Since the inception of Harvest Crusades, more than 3.6 million people have attended the stadium and arena events in the U.S. Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

According to the church Web site, Christopher Laurie, the oldest of two sons, worked for the church, serving as its art director for the past three years. A resident of Huntington Beach, Christopher celebrated his birthday April 1.

There is no immediate word if Christopher’s death will impact the crusade. In recent weeks, Laurie has been promoting his newest book, “Lost Boy,” which chronicles his redemption from a drug-using rebel to pastor of one of Riverside’s largest church communities.

In addition to his parents, Christopher Laurie is survived by his expectant wife, Brittany, and daughter, Stella. Brittany is due in November. Laurie is also survived by his younger brother Jonathan.

We are all very saddened by this tragic accident. Our prayers go out to the Laurie family. That first sentence in the article is written a bit poorly and I had to reread it several times. It makes it sound like Cathe died in the accident too along with Christopher. She of course did not.

This is such a sad day….however, we will rejoice as children of God that your son is with the Lord. Pastor Greg, Cathy and all family who loved Chris our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Pastor Greg God has blessed you with such a kind heart for the lost and your Crusade is awesome and pleasing to God. I am sorry for your loss….thank you for all you have done for us out here as Gods children. I go to Calvary Chapel Diamond Bar and saw you there with your Testimonial movie Lost Boy. You have changed and touched my life. God Bless you and your family.

My heart is aching especially for Chris’ family at this tragic–but victorious–time. Knowing that Chris deeply loved the Lord and is now in the very presence of His Saviour and King, will greatly assuage the grief but missing him will go on until we, ourselves, are with them in heaven. The ache is deep.

My God, the Christians who are crying for Christopher Laurie are the biggest hypocrites. This guy has had 12 citiations for reckless driving, then he was driving at a very very high speed in the carpool lane. How many other laws does this guy get to break before someone says he was not a good person. The good pastor should have been preaching to his son rather than the world. Thank God only he lost his life and not some innocent family that was on the freeway. Comdemn evil where ever it exists. This guy was not a good guy

There is no pain too deep that Jesus cannot soothe it, there is no sorrow His heart hasn’t known… I know His comfort will keep you, until the day he carries YOU home.
Christopher has simply gone HOME before you. You will all be in my prayers…. In Christ -

A parent should never have to experience the death of a child……..even an adult child……….a part of us goes to the grave with that child. Am so sorry for the loss……..but, our God promised to be with us and He will certainly provide the comfort needed in this situation. I am so sorry that Christopher did not choose to remain here with us.
